Halloween is right around the corner! Are you ready? In honor of Halloween and fall break approaching, I wanted to share some Halloween STEM activities you can do in the classroom that are perfect for October.
Feel free to use resources to boost student engagement or as exciting activities for students to complete during your Halloween or fall classroom party.
I love these activities because they are so easy to implement and don’t require a lot of supplies. That means less prep time for you! These STEM activities tie into Halloween books and there’s even some PBL benefits as well!
Here are my favorite Halloween STEM Activities!
1. Design A Halloween Haunted House STEM Challenge.
This STEM activity is guaranteed to be a hit with your students! To do this challenge, students will plan, design, and engineer a haunted house made from recycled materials. How fun is that?!
You’ll have your students thinking critically and problem-solving while having fun!
To do this PBL activity, you’ll want to ask parents to send in paper towel and toilet paper rolls. Theres a handy parent note included in this resource for you to print out and send home with your students. You can also use shoe boxes or tissue boxes. Additional helpful materials include 3D pens, modeling clay, and cobweb decorations.
After planning and building, students can paint their haunted houses and then use Halloween sound apps to make spooky sounds in their house!
2. STEM Volume Pumpkin Challenge
This STEM activity is based on the book Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano. This Pumpkin Volume STEM Activity will reinforce the math skill volume as they create nets for square and rectangular pumpkins.
Your students will love designing, creating, and engineering. Students will problem solve and think critically as they complete their challenge and write stories about the adventures of their pumpkins.
The best part is that this STEM challenge is totally FREE. Check it out here.
3. My Monster STEM Activity
I love the book How I Met My Monster by Amanda Noll! I feel that giving our students opportunities to use their imagination as they create helps them develop the skill of creativity and innovative thinking.
Your students will love designing, creating, and engineering their monsters with this activity!
They’ll problem-solve and think critically as they complete their challenges. Using their creations students will be inspired to write stories about their monsters!
These activities are guaranteed to get your students engaged in learning. Make sure to check them out!

Happy Halloween!
