5 Great Winter Books and STEM Activities

Winter Books and STEM Activities that your elementary students will love!

I love reading picture books! Yes, I teach 5thgrade and still read picture books daily! My students enjoy listening to books about snow and winter topics! They even reread them several times during the time they are out! I love displaying seasonal picture books around my classroom! Here are a few of my favorites and STEM activities that connect great to each one! My students enjoy STEM Fridays and these connect wonderfully to the seasonal topics.

Curious About Snow

This is the perfect book to connect to Snowflake STEM! It has wonderful facts about snowflakes and great pictures too! Students research snowflakes and then design and construct snowflakes.  It is a fun activity to connect to nonfiction text.

Snowflake Station: white buttons, white Legos, or cotton swabs

The Story of Snow

Another great winter book!!! I love the pictures! Both of these books connects to Winter STEM Challenges K-2 or 3-4.

Winter STEM Activities includes five different STEM challenges that your students will love! Students plan, design, engineer, and collect data as they are having fun during winter. These activities can also be used for STEAM Activities, Maker Spaces, Tinkering Labs, or After School Clubs.

❄️Challenge 1: Bird Feeder

❄️Challenge 2: Glove Experiment

❄️Challenge 3: Winter Road Safety

❄️Challenge 4: Cable Car Challenge

❄️Challenge 5: Snowflake Shapes

Snowmen at Work

This goes great with the STEM Snowflakes Activities. It is a great way to teach students about economics and productive resources.  I also like reading it when we start our Snowman Design Challenge!
